The Goldpan showing area is underlain by Devonian sedimentary and volcanic rocks of the Stikine Assemblage. The Devonian Forrest Kerr Pluton is in contact to the immediate west of the Stikine package. Plutonic rocks consist primarily of Late Devonian granite and diorite.

Locally, two periods of quartz veining are apparent, with barren quartz veins striking 070 degrees with a dip of 71 degrees south, and veins striking 090 degrees with a dip of 76 degrees south containing arsenopyrite, chalcopyrite and significant gold values. Numerous narrow oxidized (hematitic) shears containing arsenopyrite and native gold often parallel the arsenical quartz veins. The veins vary in size from 5 to 55 centimetres in width and are hosted by an andesite.

Trenches 1 through 5 were completed in 1990 by Avondale Resources and initially yielded only minor significant results from panel sampling. The southernmost trench, 90-A-4, assayed 1.17 grams per tonne gold across a 2 metre interval containing a shear zone (Assessment Report 20562). In addition a two metre channel sample from Trench 90-A-22, assayed 4.2 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 20562).

Three IP test lines, each about 500 metres long were run on the Goldpan showing and successfully outlined a strong anomaly at 50 to 77 metres depth. Subsequent drilling intersected pyritic graphitic argillite.
